Alvis Scarab Completes Testing In Belgium

Defense Daily, Sept 24, 2001

The Scarab reconnaissance vehicle by Britain's Alvis last month completed a series of performance and reliability testing for Belgium's $116 million Recce 2001 program, the company said last week.

Alvis' 4x4 Scarab is a high-mobility scout and liaison vehicle based on the DaimlerChyrsler [DCX] Unimog engine and running gear. Testing for Belgium's Recce 2001 program took place between May and August. The Scarab is competing against the Fennek made by Germany's Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and the Netherlands' Stork Group, and a vehicle by France's ACMAT. The Scarab is also competing for Britain's Future Command and Liaison Vehicle (FCLV) program against the RG-31M and RG-32M by the Reumech subsidiary in South Africa of Vickers, and a vehicle being offered by Hunting and ACMAT (Defense Daily, July 12).

Additionally, Alvis has signed an agreement with Italy's Iveco to offer Iveco's Multirole Light Vehicle for the FCLV program. >TK Boeing [BA]: Lockheed Martin [LMT]:
