Army to stand up new Logistics Support Activity next month

An new Army Logistics Support Activity (LOGSA) will be established at Redstone Army Arsenal, Ala., in March, the Pentagon reported yesterday.

The new activity--a separate reporting activity of the U.S. Army Materiel Command--will result from the merging of the service's Catalog Data Activity, New Cumberland, Pa.; Materiel Readiness Support Activity, Lexington, Ky.; Logistics Control Activity, Presidio, San Francisco, Calif.; and Logistics Assistance Program Activity, Alexandria, Va.

About 1,000 military and civilian personnel will be assigned to LOGSA worldwide, of which about 700 will be stationed at Redstone Arsenal, DoD said.

LOGSA also will include the merger of Army cataloging functions from its Aviation and Troop Command, St. Louis, Mo.; Armaments, Munitions and Chemical Command, Rock Island, Ill.; Communications and Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, N.J.; Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala.; and Tank Automotive Command, Warren, Mich.
