Russia and U.S. team up to produce and sell new rocket engine

Defense Daily, June 15, 1995

Russian rocket engine manufacturer NPO Energomash (NPO-EM) and Pratt & Whitney (P&W), a division of United Technologies Corporation (UTC), Monday agreed to statement of intent to produce and sell the Russian RD-120M, a modified Russian-made rocket engine.

The joint venture, signed at the Paris Air Show, will be the first flight-qualified Russian engine currently in production to be received in the U.S., according to George David, UTC president and CEO. P&W will market the engine and provide customer support while NPO-EM will take charge of the development, production and servicing of the product.

The RD-120M is intended as booster propulsion for small launch vehicles to place commercial and scientific satellites into low earth orbit.
