BK eyes casino concept

Leisure Report, May, 2008

Burger King plans to launch a new downsized restaurant concept called the Whopper Bar, where burgers would be made in front of customers to their own taste. The company said that it would unveil the plans, which are still in the conceptual stage, at its franchisee convention in the US in May. The concept, which was described as a "hipper" and more "interactive" version of the existing outlets, would be targeted at smaller locations such as airports and casinos where a full-sized restaurant was less feasible.

The outlet would feature a visible preparation area where staff would make a range of 10 different types of Whoppers, not included on standard menus, while consumers watched. BK said that it had not decided on the location of the first site yet, but if it received interest from franchisees would consider opening one by the end of the year.
