The Rank Group has announced the appointment of Phil Urban as managing director of its casino arm, Grosvenor Casinos. Urban took up his position with effect from 2 June 2008 and will also join the group's executive committee. He succeeds Peter McCann. Urban's previous roles have included managing directorships of Whitbread's pub restaurants and Scottish & Newcastle's restaurants and accommodation division.
Ian Burke, Rank's chief executive, said: "I am delighted that Phil has chosen to join at this time of change and opportunity in the gaming industry. Our ambition is to create a truly modern gaming-based leisure business. Phil's breadth of experience in leisure, harnessed to Rank's deep knowledge of the British casino market, will help us to achieve this ambition."
