This month only 15 companies, well under half of those in the list, suffered a fall in share price compared to 19 fallers in March. However, the overall average share price of the Leisure Report selection did drop slightly, from l09.51p last month to 108.29p in April. These averages do not include West Bromwich Albion, whose high share price distorts things, and whose chairman, Jeremy Peace, has made a cash offer for the club.
The health and fitness market enjoyed a welcome upturn, with no fallers among the sector's listed players. Performance was buoyed by Fitness First's long-awaited private equity-backed management buyout and by a relatively positive set of results from LA Fitness.
The average ROCE for the index was slightly up on last month's 3.31%, at 3.59%.
