Leisure Report, April, 2005

VisitBritain announced the appointment of Penelope, Viscountess Cobham, as deputy chairman.

Lady Cobham joined the board of VisitBritain in April 2003 and is currently chairman of the both the British Casino Association and chairman of 100.7 Heart FM and Galaxy 102.2 FM, the radio stations.

Lord Marshall of Knightsbridge, VisitBritain chairman, said: "This is an important appointment for VisitBritain. Penny's extensive experience in the visitor, leisure and media industries is a great asset for us as we enter into a number of new overseas markets and maintain a comprehensive programme of marketing in partnership with the commercial industry.

"She will work with me to maintain a high profile for the inbound and domestic visitor economy with our key stakeholders, as well as ensuring accountability to Government and the industry."

Lady Cobham said: "Britain has been enjoying record visits from overseas markets and the domestic market is buoyant. However, the challenges of maintaining our competitive position and increasing visitor spend remain and I am looking forward to working with the chairman, the board and staff of VisitBritain to build the value and profile of tourism in this country."
