Midway Airport

Chicago's attempt to privatize Midway Airport took another step forward with a preliminary application to become the sole large hub in FAA's pilot five-airport privatization program. The agency promised to "undertake a preliminary review. . .within 30 days." Six organizations, including a Spanish group that leases Chicago's Skyway toll bridge and another headed by Vancouver International Airport's operator, have been qualified as bidders. They are a consortium comprising Abertis Infraestructuras, Babcock & Brown and GECAS; Caryle Infrastructure Partners; Macquarie; Hochtief AirPorts and GS Global Infrastructure Partners; a consortium comprising YVR Airport Services, Citi Infrastructure Investors and John Hancock, and a consortium comprising Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners, Aeroparts de Paris and HMSHost. New York Stewart International Airport

New York's secondary airports are poised for growth. Officials at New York's Stewart International Airport are taking steps to attract more international flights. The airport, located about 60 miles from New York City, could eventually serve as an alternative to Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. Meanwhile, officials at Islip's MacArthur Airport expect an increase in domestic and international discount flights. Apr 7, 2008
