The Cambodian government and Indonesiais Rajawali Corporation have agreed to join forces to create a new national airline to serve Cambodia's burgeoning tourism industry. The Cambodian government will own 51 percent of the joint-venture company, while Rajawali Group will own the rest. In the mid-1990is Cambodia inaugurated its own national flag carrier, Royal Air Cambodge, which went bankrupt, resulting in heavy losses for the government. The new carrier will inherit a brighter tourism pictureoCambodia attracted more than two million tourists last year, an increase of 19 percent over 2006. Even more promising is the increase of air travel to Cambodia in 2007, which grew more than 25 percent. Apr 14, 2008
Singapore Airlines, Singapore Airlines Vacations
Singapore Airlines is launching Singapore Airlines Vacations with the help of Pleasant Holidays, which will administer the program for travel agents. The new brand will include a range of air-inclusive travel packages to destinations throughout the airline[sup.1]s global network. Singapore Airlines Vacations will also allow travelers to create personalized vacations to the carrieris Asian and European destinations, including Singapore, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Maldives, Indonesia, Germany and Russia. The program will be marketed through sales brochures and joint partnerships with national tourism offices, and online at www.singaporeair.com/usa, Pleasant Holidays recently launched a Caribbean program; it already sells Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, Asia and the South Pacific. Tourism New Zealand
Tourism New Zealand is accepting nominees until May 1 for the New Zealand Tourism Awards and the Kiwi Specialist of the Year for 2008. "Each year, we take the opportunity to recognize the hard work of our industry partners to celebrate their success and profitability in selling New Zealand," said Annie Dundas, regional manager of Tourism New Zealand, North America. For the first time, the annual New Zealand Tourism Awards will be held in New Zealand, prior to the Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand (TRENZ) conference, on May 25 at the Duxton Okawa Bay in Rotorua. Tour operators can submit examples of how they have creatively marketed the destination, by entering in any of the following five categories: 1) Best New Zealand Consumer Brochure; 2) Best New Zealand Trade Brochure; 3) Best New Zealand Online Content; 4) Best New Zealand Consumer Marketing/Promotional Campaign; and 5) Best New Zealand Trade Marketing/Promotional Campaign. V Australia, the international airline of Virgin Blue, and Sabre Travel Network have signed a multi-year distribution agreement that will allow the airlineis fares and inventory to be made available to all Sabre-connected travel agents worldwide. V Australia will initially operate flights between the east coast of Australia and the west coast of the U.S., commencing operations in December 2008. The new Sabre link provides V Australia the ability to reach more leisure and corporate travelers by using a multi-channel distribution strategy.
