Boeing and Arik Air today announced an order for an additional seven Next-Generation 737s at the Farnborough Airshow. The airline ordered 10 Next-Generation 737s in September 2007 and now has a total of 17 Next-Generation 737s on order. Arik Air currently operates six 737-700s. Today's order has been attributed on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries Web site to an unidentified customer. Arik Air has five 777-300ERs (Extended Range) and seven 787-9 Dreamliners on order. The airline also announced its intent to purchase four 747-8 Intercontinentals. Arik Air is Nigeria's fastest-growing privately owned airline and serves more than 14 domestic routes with a fleet of 18 airplanes. 7/15/2008

Boeing said FlyDubai ordered at the Farnborough Airshow 50 single-aisle 737 airliners, in a deal worth USD$4 billion at list prices. Start-up low-cost carrier FlyDubai is also taking four 737s from lessor Babcock & Brown. 7/15/2008

CAE yesterday announced that the Boeing 777-300ER full-flight simulator it designed and manufactured for Delta Air Lines won Level D certification under US FAA Part 60. FAA implemented Part 60 in late May as an extension of its National Simulator Program to bolster qualification requirements for the use of flight simulation training devices. The CAE FFS, which is in operation at Delta's Atlanta training center, is the first to achieve this certification. 7/9/2008

US National Transportation Safety Board said it is investigating a "near midair collision" between a Cayman Airways Boeing 737-300 and a LAN Airlines 767-300 over New York JFK on July 5. It said the Cayman aircraft was executing a missed approach and "conflicted" with the departing LAN flight. It said closest proximity was undetermined and the parties involved presented conflicting versions of the incident. Both airlines said the National Air Traffic Controllers Assn. report, which described the evening incident as "very scary," was incorrect. According to the Associated Press, US FAA said the aircraft came no closer than 300 ft. vertically and more than one-half mile horizontally. 7/8/2008

China Southern Airlines announced its intention to sell 12 MD-82s and four Boeing 777-200s. 7/7/2008

Etihad Airways also ordered at the Farnborough Airshow 35 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 10 Boeing 777s, in a deal Boeing said was worth USD$9.4 billion. 7/15/2008

Etihad Airways announced an order for 45 Boeing aircraft worth $9 billion at list prices on Monday, banking on increased investment and an aggressive tourism push in the United Arab Emirates to justify its hefty purchase. The deal signed at the Farnborough International Airshow outside London comprises 35 Boeing 787 aircraft and 10 Boeing 777-300ER. Etihad, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, is also placing options for another 25 Boeing 787s and 10 Boeing 777s and has purchase rights for 10 more Boeing 787s and five Boeing 777s. Deliveries of the aircraft will begin in 2011 and be completed in 2020. 7/14/2008

GE Aviation said Monday that it had booked almost $1.9 billion in new orders, at Farnborough Air Show, directly and through its partnerships. Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, ordered 10 Boeing 777s to be delivered in 2011 - all to be equipped with GE-90 engines worth $500 million. 7/15/2008
