As early as next month, the Internet could be available at 35,000 feet when American Airlines begins testing a new service called Gogo on three long-haul routes. The data-only system -- it blocks any site that allows voice conversations -- is compatible with any Wi-Fi enabled laptop computer or cell phone. The service is priced at $9.95 for short trips, or $12.95 for flights longer than three hours. Jun 19, 2008

American Airlines and United Airlines are preparing to strictly enforce limits on carry-on luggage as they start charging travelers for every piece of checked luggage. Airguide editors noted that the carriers will station workers near the entrance to security lanes to intercept travelers exceeding the limit for carry-ons. Jun 17, 2008

American Airlines and United Airlines have asked the FAA to suspend rules on takeoff and landing slots at capacity-controlled airports. The airlines note that they want to maintain their slots as they reduce capacity to offset the surging price of oil. Jun 16, 2008
