Raytheon, Alliant to compete on next-generation Excalibur shells The Army has awarded competing development contracts for the next-generation Excalibur guided artillery shell, a weapon that could eventually generate $350 million in orders. Raytheon Missile Systems, maker of the current Excalibur shells now being used in Iraq, will face competition from Alliant Techsystems Inc. in developing the Excalibur Ib. Both companies received $10 million, 18-month contracts to design a shell with greater range and reliability at a lower cost than the present version. Oct 8, 2008

Raytheon, Northrop Grumman

Raytheon and Northrop Grumman complete KEI motor test . The Raytheon and Northrop Grumman Kinetic Energy Interceptor (KEI) team successfully test fired an enhanced Stage 2 rocket motor. The firing occurred at the Alliant Techsystems' test facility in Elkton, Md., Sept. 25. KEI is a mobile, land-based missile defense system now under development. News release. Oct 9, 2008
