Embraer, Elbit Systems
Embraer has selected Elbit Systems to supply its Kollsman Enhanced Vision System (EVS II) for the Lineage 1000. It will be offered as an option in combination with Rockwell Collins[sup.1] Head-Up Guidance System. [sup.3]This system improves the capability of aircraft to execute precision and non-precision approaches and safely land in reduced visibility conditions,[sup.2] says Henrique Langenegger, vice president, programs executive Jets. Certification of EVS II is expected by 2010. Four Lineage 1000 jets are currently at PATS Aircraft Completions and the first aircraft is due for delivery at the end of the year. Oct 6, 2008
Embraer, Rockwell Collins
Embraer has selected the 5600E Head-Up Guidance System (HGS) from Rockwell Collins for its Lineage 1000 business jet. The HGS-5600E is a derivative of the existing HGS-5600, which is already certified for Cat III/Low Visibility Take Off (LVTO) capability on the Embraer 170 and 190 aircraft. Rockwell Collins has also received European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and FAA Category III certification for its HGS-4860 on the Dassault Falcon 2000EX, joining the Falcon 900 and 200 family as the only Cat III-qualified fleet in this corporate market segment. Flight Display Systems
Flight Display Systems has launched the aircraft industry's first five-source wireless audio transmitter. When paired with the company[sup.1]s digital five-source-selectable wireless headsets, passengers can select from a wide variety of programming anywhere in the cabin. The user just has to select the channel they want from a headset-mounted button. The 14oz, 28VDC transmitter produces 2.43GHz digital signals. In addition, customers can plug in their own portable digital devices, including iPods and MP3 players to enjoy their own programming. Other on-board audio sources can be used too, including satellite radio, CD players, DVD, VCR and TV sound. Oct 6, 2008
Flybe, Flight Training Europe
Flybe has just celebrated the graduation of the first UK cabin crew ever to have nationally recognised professional skills. The 21 crew have completed a three-month national vocational qualification (NVQ2) in "aviation operations in the air", recognised by the UK Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA). This development follows a series of pioneering training initiatives by the airline, for which the foundations were laid last year and which could lead to a regeneration of the UK national skills training system as it applies to aviation. Flybe, Flight Training Europe
Flybe has chosen Jerez, Spain-based Flight Training Europe as its partner organisation in creating the first multi-crew pilot licence (MPL) course for a UK-registered airline. The carrier and the flight training organisation are working with the UK Civil Aviation Authority to create an approved MPL course. Flybe's head of crew training Brian Watt says the first course, which the airline hopes will begin in February, will consist of between six and 12 ab initio trainee pilots. Course graduates will go straight into the co-pilot seats of its Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 turboprop fleet. From 2010 Watt sees the potential for two courses a year, but that will depend on how requirements develop. Oct 6, 2008
