Soccer star is held for attack
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Sept 16, 2003
A Scottish football star was arrested for allegedly fighting with a fellow player in a Tyneside nightclub after a bust up over lipstick.
Aberdeen striker Leigh Hinds is said to have hit Clyde winger David Hagen with a beer bottle at the Baja Beach Club in Gateshead on September 6.
Hagen, 30, was taken to hospital and needed 12 stitches while Hinds, 25, was arrested.
A group of around 10 Clyde players were in the nightclub and larking around with lipstick which is said to have ended up on Hagen's shirt which spilled into an argument with Leigh and another man.
Then Hagen was hit in the head and was left with a deep cut. The players immediately left the Quayside nightclub.
Last night Hinds told a Scottish newspaper the incident had "got out of hand".
He added: "The club has told me not to say anything. I haven't been charged. It wasn't anything nasty."
Aberdeen Football Club, which plays in the Scottish Premier League, said it would not be making any comment until it spoke to the Hinds.
