Beating hayfever

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), April 19, 2004

Avoid going for walks in the countryside when pollen levels are high.

If you are travelling by car, keep the windows shut and invest in air conditioning or get a pollen vent fitted to the air vent.

Check weather forecasts for the pollen count and plan your days around this.

Take your holidays at the seaside instead of in the countryside.

Keep your windows closed in the late afternoon, when the pollen count rises.

Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from pollen in the air.

A tiny dab of Vaseline inside nostrils helps filter pollen.

After exposure to pollen, remove clothes and wash hair before sleeping to avoid irritation.

Get someone else to mow the lawn and don't lie on freshly-cut grass
