Travel levy proposed

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), March 20, 2004

Holidaymakers might have to pay a levy to finance a new travel protection scheme proposed by air regulators.

An increasing number of air travel packages are not covered by the existing Air Travel Organisers' Licensing (ATOL) scheme.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has proposed a change in protection policy which will bring air travel booked direct with airlines under the ATOL umbrella.

The CAA draft plans, being presented to Government today, are mainly aimed at travel with no-frills airlines.
