Working at home project

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), July 23, 2005

Working from home is paying off for a group of Newcastle council staff.

The project is providing the six staff with flexible working hours and is expected to save the council money.

The Homeworking Benefits Project is the brainchild of City Service chief, Ray Ward.

The staff who work in the benefits section have had desks, computers, phones and broadband facilities installed at their homes.

Mr Ward implemented a similar scheme at East Riding Council and his aim is to have 10% of City Service staff, around 65 people, working from home.

"There are many benefits including quality of life, less stress, and a reduction in sickness levels and commuting costs," he said.
