Lottery winner's seeing double; Porsche, Bentley? No all lucky Mick wanted was Volvos

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Dec 28, 2007

OVERNIGHT millionaire Mick Fox ticked the part of his wish list that said 'Dream Car', then went back and ticked it again.

But his dream wasn't the prestigious Porsche or Bentley that so many other lottery winners have gone for.

The former lorry driver has just bought himself two new Volvos.

His first was a new Volvo 80, which sells at around pounds 30,000, and the second is a nearly new XC90 4X4, which he calls his plaything.

Mr Fox said: "I've always admired Volvos and while I have owned a few in the past, I was never able to really indulge by adding lots of extras or buying a top of the range model.

"The lottery win has allowed me to do both with these cars and I couldn't be more delighted."

Mr Fox, aged 65, scooped a National Lottery jackpot of pounds 2,745,415 last May.

At the time, the divorced father-of-five was living in Blyth.

Since then he has spent some of his winnings buying a property in the village of Longhirst, near Morpeth.

He has also enjoyed sharing his good luck with his children, Debra, 45, Colin, 43, Kevin 42, Susan, 37, Michael, 36, and his 14 grandchildren.

"It has given me so much pleasure to help my children and their families in a way I could only have dreamt of before," he said.

At the time of his win he said that having a large family mean that he had always been pushed for money in the past.

Bill Ward, director of Volvo North East, said: "It's not every day we get a lottery winner in our showrooms, but Mick knew exactly what he wanted on both visits and seems very happy with his purchases."

It has given me so much pleasure to help my children and their families in a way I could only have dreamt of before"
