C-Max is the best in its class

Ford are continuously updating their models and the Ford C-Max has not been left out as it joins the latest line-up behind the Galaxy and S-Max.

Given the success of the Ford Focus it was almost a foregone conclusion that the people mover it spawned would be equally impressive.

But perhaps few people expected this grown up version of Britain's best selling car would be quite as good as it is. In fact the C-Max has set the benchmark for medium sized MPVs.

Unlike a lot of its competitors, the C-Max is a people mover that feels more like a large hatchback, and is all the nicer to drive for it. It does however, incorporate all the features that people buy MPVs for.

There is, for example, a higher than normal driving position so you can have a view over the tops of surrounding vehicles ( allowing you to see problems well in advance.

The height also means you can easily step in and out of the vehicle without having to lower yourself into the seats.

Space in the C-Max is in abundance both in terms of head and leg room. There are three individual seats in the rear but if there are only two rear seat passengers travelling you can slide the middle seat rearwards into the baggage compartment to give them more elbow room.

With the rear seat out of the way the two centre seats will slide inwards to give maximum space on each side.

If you want extra luggage space you can take the rear seats out completely, creating a massive 1,692 litres to transport larger items.

The C-Max also boasts a host of useful storage areas, including two rear underfloor compartments and a holder for sunglasses.

The C-Max is not a car you could say stands out in a crowd. In fact at first glance you could take it for a Focus.

But, good as the current Focus is, to my mind the C-Max is better.

You have an abundance of space in a compact vehicle and the flexibility to carry loads of all shapes and sizes.

Without doubt this people mover is certainly the best there is in this class of car.
