And he said he was lucky

Holed up in his cell, VAT rat Peter Glover seems to have run out of luck.

The former hypnotist is beginning a five year jail term for his part in an pounds 85m mobile phone tax scam.

It marks the end of the line for the flashy fraudster who claimed to be one of Britain's luckiest men.

Glover, of Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, used his own website to brag about walking off after being hit by a bus.

And he also said he has been involved in a high speed smash with a 40ft truck in a Porsche, survived a poison attempt by a Chinese street performer and pulled through after a devastating motorbike collision.

Last night, we told how Glover helped mastermind a sophisticated swindle, illegally adding VAT to sales of mobile phones between bogus businesses.

The 52-year-old, who brags of his money-making skills, was one of six jailed following a five-year HM Revenue & Customs probe.

Now, we can reveal Glover also faces being stripped of his prize possessions as HMRC probe the amount he earned from the lucrative scam.

Proceeds of Crime cases are being prepared against him and the others involved in the scam.

Glover, a married father, has his own website on which he boasts how he can make money from any venture. He has also posted a CCTV still picture, which he says shows the moment he was hit by a bus, in Whitley Bay town centre.

Next to the snap, he says: "Talk about lucky, this is from the CCTV in the shop opposite, the police said they can't believe I'm alive, well I was, and with a bit of scaffolding and a few pins I was fighting fit."

His site tells of his other brushes with death. He says: "I was coming out the Hilton hotel 5am in the morning the car had been into the Porsche garage after blowing the turbo and it was going rather well I accelerated up the service road as you do and reached the bend following the road works I suddenly realised that I was heading toward a 40ft truck, well he won the photos a bit naff because the camera was in the car at the time."
