NEXUS replies: There is a bus service, Go North East 56, which links Newcastle and Nissan, though the first bus that arrives before 7am actually departs from Gateshead Interchange at 5.49am, arriving at Nissan at 6.27am. This may be an option for the apprentice mentioned. The first bus from Newcastle city centre leaves at 6.21am and arrives at 7.08am.

The routes and timetables of 90% of bus services in Tyne & Wear are determined by the operator, not Nexus. Nexus has limited resources to provide through subsidy additional services that otherwise would not operate.

We do provide early-morning bus services for workers on a number of routes in Tyne & Wear but we have not had any suggestion there is significant demand for such services to Nissan.

Provision of public transport, even of secured services, has to reflect demand.
