Teen's pals will be green with envy; SUHAINE STEVENS organises a makeover for a teenage lad who has fought back from serious illness

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), April 12, 2008

Byline: SUHAINE STEVENS

WHEN a letter landed on the fashion desk from Eileen Lamb asking if we could give her grandson Daniel a special day to remember, we couldn't refuse.

Daniel Holland, 13, is in Year 9 at St Robert of Newminster School in Washington.

Before Christmas he had a nasty case of pneumonia. Now that Daniel is back to full fitness, his grandmother thought he deserved a nice, relaxing day during his hectic SATs year.

We started off at Soul Hair Salon on Saville Row, Newcastle.

Daniel wears his hair quite short anyway, so stylist Andrew Davison just used clippers to neaten up the sides, then texturised the top sections.

He finished off the style with American Crew hair products.

For a selection of fashionable menswear, we headed to Burton in Eldon Square. Burton's sizes start from extra small, which means men's fashions are now accessible to teenagers.

Their latest range includes everything from gorgeous vintage denim for a retro 80's feel, to slimfit shirts and cardigans reminiscent of the mod era.

For our first outfit we selected a sporty yellow and cream polo-shirt which we teamed with a gorgeous pair of pale blue jeans.

The lighter tones are perfect for spring and summer - yet the jeans allow for the unpredictable British weather!

Next Daniel modelled a midgreen jacket with white trim, over a simple white T-shirt with black graphics. We added a smart pair of dark blue jeans with crease detailing to create a modern, stylish look.

Finally, we opted for a smart evening outfit. We selected a pair of dark blue jeans and teamed them with a slim-fit navy and white striped shirt with roll-back cuffs from their Unsung Hero collection.

Daniel's favourite outfit was definitely the green jacket, white T-shirt and jeans as they were practical and stylish - perfect to wear if he was out with friends for the day.

Daniel said: "I've had a really good day and I did like the clothes from Burton - it's certainly been a new experience for me!"

SPECIAL THANKS TO: Andrew Davison at Soul Hair Salon, Saville Row, (0191) 230 2135, Susan and all the staff at Burton, Eldon Square.
