Breed's a small wonder

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), August 6, 2008

The smallest breed of dog in the world is named after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico, where it was discovered in 1850.

Generally, the height ranges between six and 10 inches. However, some dogs grow as tall as 12 to 15 inches.

They have the largest brain when compared to body size of any breed of dog.

Boo Boo, a four-inch-tall longhaired female chihuahua, was named the world's smallest living dog by the Guinness Book of World Records in May 2007. She weighed only one ounce at birth.

Famous chihuahuas include Bruiser (real name Moonie), Elle Woods's companion in the Legally Blonde, movies and an unnamed pet belonging to Pedro the "Bumblebee Man" from The Simpsons.
