Rolf art on show

PAINTINGS from Rolf Harris's private collection are on display on Tyneside.

The pictures were previewed at a Newcastle art gallery last night.

The collection of 18 original paintings, plus cheaper limited-edition prints, are on show at the new Whitewall Galleries in Grey Street, until Sunday.

The subject matter ranges from a view of Venice to a study of some daisies.

Belinda Johnson of the Whitewall Galleries said: "Rolf came from Australia to study in London and London holds a particular place in his heart.

"But you can see from this exhibition that he finds inspiration in some very ordinary places."

Several of the paintings have never been displayed publicly before, and many are a world away from the famous portrait of the Queen which Rolf on Art viewers saw him create on television.
