Visual aid to drink safely
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Dec 18, 2008
A SOBERING sight is spearheading a campaign to tackle binge drinking in the run-up to Christmas.
An eye-catching mannequin of a young woman in a drunken state has been placed in the window of Clayport library in Durham accompanied by the message: "You wouldn't start a night like this, so why end it that way?"
It is part of the nation wide Know Your Limits alcohol campaign.
Cards with tips on how to have an enjoyable but safe night out will be distributed in town centres over the next few days.
The campaign supports work already done by the County Durham Community Safety Board, a partnership of key organisations from across the county including all local authorities, police, fire and rescue, probation and health, to reduce alcohol-related crime and disorder.
Local businesses are also supporting the initiative. Pub Watch will be supporting the campaign with posters in pub wash rooms across the county.
