Chancellor visits Nissan
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Feb 9, 2008
CHANCELLOR Alistair Darling has travelled to Nissan HQ in Japan to thank them for 800 new jobs they are creating in the region.
Mr Darling was in Tokyo to meet Hidetoshi Imazu, executive vice president of Nissan Motor Co Ltd at the car manufacturer's head quarters.
Last week, we reported the company, which already employs 4,200 people at its Washington factory, will take on around 800 members of staff to cope with demand for the Qashqai and the Qashqai 2.
Mr Darling said: "Nissan is a great UK-Japan success story.
"I am delighted that Nissan will employ an extra 800 staff to meet demand."
