Homes to be improved on
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), July 31, 2008
MORE homes are set for a facelift as part of regeneration plans.
Gateshead Council has submitted an application for planning permission to carry out major works to homes in Watt Street, Telford Street, Hedley Street, Stephenson Street, Saltwell Road and Whitehall Road, in Bensham.
The proposed improvements include new boundary walls with stone copings, metal railings and gates to reinstate what was removed at the start of the Second World War. Properties will also have improvements to their windows and doors.
Coun David Napier, right, cabinet spokesman for housing, says: "This is a huge programme which will benefit thousands of local residents."
