Biker hurt in car smash

A MOTORCYCLIST was seriously hurt when his machine was in collision with a car.

The 50-year-old, from Stanley, suffered chest, rib and ankle injuries.

He was said today to be in a poorly but stable condition in the University Hospital of North Durham in Durham City.

The biker was riding his 1,000cc Suzuki on the A68 at Castleside, near Consett, at about 8pm on Friday when it appeared to slide across the carriageway on a left-hand bend and collide with a Nissan car.

The 28-year-old driver of the Nissan, a woman from Lanchester, County Durham, and her passenger, 23, suffered minor injuries. Witnesses are urged to contact police on 08456 060 365.
