Illness ordeal

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), June 24, 2008

A NORTH East student has told of her cancer fight.

Carol Starkey, 20, who goes to Durham University, suffered eight months of pain and frustration before finally being diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2006.

Her GP had previously diagnosed a repetitive strain injury.

Miss Starkey finished her treatment in August 2007, and is feeling healthy again.

She has told her story as part of Bone Cancer Research Trust's first Bone Cancer Awareness Week which runs from Saturday to June 28.

The focus of the awareness week is delayed diagnosis, which the charity says is common among young bone cancer patients.
