fashion: Deserving a day off; SUHAINE STEVENS gives a young carer a much-deserved makeover

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), March 8, 2008

Byline: SUHAINE STEVENS

This week we have a very special makeover for a devoted young carer.

We met up with Sarah Marr, 15, from Benton.

Sarah cares for both her father and brother, while also studying for her GCSEs at Heaton Manor School. We thought she deserved a day of relaxation and pampering.

We started the day off at Soul Hair Salon on Saville Row, Newcastle.

Sarah has quite thick hair so, after a consultation, stylist Kim decided to give Sarah a trim and took some weight off the back by chopping into the layers and giving it more shape. Kim then used straighteners to give a salon sleek finish.

We then headed to the Body Shop, Eldon Square, where Catherine gave Sarah a full makeover using blue eyeshadow and a fabulous glitter eyeliner in silver and navy to enhance Sarah's eyes.

Catherine then used a pink lip stain and a touch of lip gloss to finish off the fresh, young look.

For a few tempting ideas for Sarah's spring wardrobe we headed to Quiz, Eldon Square, to check out their latest range. This spring sees the revival of feminine colours such as aqua and baby pink, with an emphasis on sheer, floaty fabrics and sky scraper heels. Quiz has some fantastic outfits, so choosing a few for Sarah was easy.

For our first outfit we selected an aqua strapless top with diamante detailing. We teamed this with some simple white jeans and a cute pair of aqua heels for a fun feel.

Next, Sarah models a white graphic print T-shirt under a white wool cardigan with lantern sleeves. We also selected a pair of boyfriend jeans, which make a funky alternative to straight or boot-cut jeans.

Finally we selected an outfit that would be perfect for parties or an evening out at the cinema. We chose a delicate top in baby pink and a pair of black skinny jeans.

These were incredibly flattering to Sarah's slim figure and, when teamed with a pair of pink heels, it created a look that was both fun and stylish.

Sarah's favourite outfit was the aqua top with the white jeans.

Sarah said: "I've had a really good day and I love my hair. I'm going to spend the rest of the day doing a bit of shopping in town with my friend."
