Toon reserves know only way is up
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), May 17, 2008
NEWCASTLE United Reserves made the long trek to Birmingham to face Aston Villa knowing a point was required to earn promotion.
A Ruth Sutcliffe goal and a Lisa Coleman penalty on 81 minutes secured them second place, three points behind Blackburn Rovers.
Rovers and Newcastle United will replace Manchester City and Sunderland, who have both been relegated from Division One North.
NEWCASTLE United's Football Development Scheme has been playing host to Dutch student Maxime Jackson.
Maxime, aged 16, comes from Gendt and has been on a work placement at the scheme while staying with her grandparents in Tynemouth.
As well as first-hand coaching experience working alongside NFDS coach Lisa Bell, Maxime has also studied how the scheme operates on a daily basis. She also trained with the Newcastle United reserve squad.
