Ribs burned

FIREFIGHTERS were called out last night when a pan of spare ribs left cooking set off a smoke alarm.
The crew from the Hebburn station were called to Wood Green in Pelaw, Gateshead, when the alarm was activated.
A brigade spokesman said that the homeowner in her 80s had left the food cooking while she went out to the local community centre.
The damage, largely caused by smoke, was limited to the kitchen. No-one was injured.
