Salvation Army's Moving

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Oct 25, 2008

TOMORROW at 4.30pm will see the final service at the Salvation City Temple in Westgate Road, Newcastle.

The Salvation Army is moving out and will continue its work (for the time being) from Brunswick Methodist Church near the Monument. Members look for-wardto developing their future work wherever andwhenever this might be.

The Army began its evangelistic work in Newcastle in 1879, filling the Westgate Hall of Varieties for its weeknight meetings. Ten years later, at a site across the road, the Founder presided at the foundation stone laying for the City Temple.

In total 3,000 people attended the opening a year later and ever since then the Temple has been available to meet the spiritual and practical needs of anyone who calls in.

Everyone is invited to join the service tomorrow and admission is free.
