Twin's illness
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Oct 3, 2008
DOCTORS have been left baffled by a twin girl's condition.
While Sophie Shaw was born healthy, sister Megan suffers from a variety of rare conditions, which mean she has one functioning kidney, can only breathe with the aid of a tube and spends hours connected to a feeding pump.
But the toddler is proving to be a fighter.
Mum Lyndsey Hay, 27, said: "Her spirit gives me such hope for her future."
Lyndsey and Megan's dad, Kevin Shaw, 32, from Red House, Sunderland, were told to expect the worst when the youngster was born prematurely by Caesarean at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
Lyndsey, a customer service advisor, said: "She has had the odds against her."
