Nissan blaze
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Oct 7, 2008
AROUND 400 workers were evacuated from the Nissan car plant early today during a blaze alert.
A fire broke out shortly before 1am in a refuse skip outside the trim and chassis production line building.
Smoke poured back through the hopper that carries the refuse into the skip and filled the 100,000sq metre building.
Production was halted and nightshift workers were led from the building as firefighters tackled the blaze.
Four crews were involved in the hour-long operation, two from Washington and two from North Moor Stations.
Workers were allowed back after an hour. No-one was hurt in the incident.
It is not known what started the fire in the skip.
