Thieves raid phone shop

THIEVES broke into a mobile phone shop and made off with cash and computer equipment.
They broke in through the back door of the Carphone Warehouse in Gosforth, Newcastle, last night but were spotted by a passer-by who contacted the police.
Officers went to the scene but the thieves had gone.
The crime scene was cordoned off and forensic experts searched the premises.
Today CID officers were making an appeal for witnesses or anyone who was in the area at the time of the burglary, which took place around 9.10pm, to contact them.
Sgt Mick Quinn said: "The burglars gained access via the rear door of the Carphone Warehouse on Gosforth High Street.
"A passerby contacted us to tell us it was happening. The burglars managed to get away with a quantity of cash and computer equipment.
"We are talking to staff today to see how much was taken.
"We are asking anyone who has information or who was in the area at the time who saw anything suspicious to give us a call."
