Dustry can aid Hannon stature
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Oct 8, 2008
RICHARD HANNON proved again that this season he has no peers in training juveniles - and another winner looks in the offing with Dustry at Newbury.
This twice-raced colt showed significant improvement to win in impressive style last time in a manner that hinted at plenty more to come.
After an inauspicious debut at Newbury, where he failed to beat a rival, Dustry could not have been more impressive last time at Leicester.
And while he may have been last on his first run, that race could not have worked out much better, with the winner Nasri proving himself a smart sort and the runner-up Definightly rated in the high 80s.
Dustry looked the stable second-string last time in a Leicester maiden, but Dane O'Neill had no trouble accounting for a rival with a rating of 77.
The handicapper has allotted him a mark of 79, which looks fair enough and, with Richard Hughes riding at the top of his game, the Chevalier colt will want for nothing from the saddle - making the Sir Gerald Whent Memorial Nursery the most interesting race of the day.
Michael Bell has enjoyed a good season and, while his string might not be in the red-hot form of earlier in the year, winners are still flowing regularly from his Newmarket yard.
He runs the maiden winner Summer's Lease in the Vodafone Fillies' Handicap, and it is worth taking a chance she will improve significantly for her only outing on a racecourse.
She is admittedly the least experienced member of the field by some way, but that is also a positive in that she is unexposed.
Her maiden victory came without much fuss, and she had reportedly been working like a decent sort at home before her delayed debut.
Summer's Lease suffered a pelvic injury which stopped her from racing as a juvenile, but she showed no ill effects of that at Nottingham in August and can go in again.
James Fanshawe's Sphere looks the best bet on the card at Great Leighs in the Much Hadham Maiden Stakes.
The three-year-old filly has been unfortunate in bumping into some decent rivals since stepping into handicap company, and should find this easier.
There is no question mark over her stamina, and her performance when finishing only one and three-quarter lengths behind Cesarewitch favourite Askar Tau at Yarmouth is the best piece of form on offer by some distance.
Brian Meehan's Red Junior looks a winner waiting to happen in the Clacton Maiden Stakes following his encouraging debut behind Four Winds.
Tuanku can defy a penalty in the Grolsch Juvenile Novices' Hurdle at Wincanton, while The Accordion Man can return to winning ways in the Bristol Finance 30th Anniversary Novices' Hurdle at Southwell.
