Gas check
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Sept 13, 2008
SPOT checks are being made on people's homes this month as part of a safety drive.
Gates head Council has joined forces with the Government's Health and Safety Inspectorate to check gas appliances.
They will target 300 rented properties on Wednesday and Thursday to track down dangerous gas appliances.
All landlords are required by law to have gas cookers, central heating boilers and other gas appliances inspected every 12 months by a CORGI registered installer.
Anneliese Hutchinson, head of regulatory services for Gates head Council, said: "With autumn here, many people will soon be relying on home heating systems to keep themselves warm."
