Army insights

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Sept 15, 2008

A SERIES of war talks will start with a look at an Army division at the sharp end of an offensive that led to the end of the First World War.

Former Imperial War Museum senior historian Peter Simkins will be at the Durham Light Infantry Museum this Saturday to talk about the experience of the 12th (Eastern) Division in the 10 days offensive of 1918.

The 12th is one of the least well-known but most successful divisions in the last months of the 1914-18 war.

The talk, which starts at 2pm, is followed on October 4 by Cambrai 1917: The Myth of the First Great Tank Battle.

Tickets for the talks are available in advance on (0191) 384 2214.
