Driving ahead; Car company appoints new UK human resources director

CAR firm Nissan has appointed a new human resources director for its UK operations. Danny Griffiths, who is currently personnel director at the firm's Sunderland plant, will now oversee all HR functions for Nissan in the UK as part of a wider drive to improve efficiency and effectiveness across Europe. The move is part of a five-year business plan, GT2012, which aims to develop the firm's long-term future. Danny said: "I'm looking forward to my new responsibilities and the challenge of improving our HR service levels through improved efficiencies and common processes. "The UK operations make a significant contribution to the overall European business agenda and this is testament to the dedication and professionalism of all our employees." Danny also has responsibility for the early-phase HR set-up planning for the new Nissan manufacturing plant being constructed in St Petersburg, Russia. In addition, he also oversees the management of a Global Training Centre, in Sunderland. Danny joined Nissan in 1988 and has previously worked in retail, automotive and the public sectors. He is a member of the CBI Employment Policy Committee and the Apprenticeship Ambassador Network, which is dedicated to the advancement of apprenticeships in the UK.
