Anniversary Cowell's GARDEN CENTRE; gardens
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Sept 27, 2008
THINK of conifers and most people often don't think beyond the Leylandii hedge, but just think of what they can really offer your garden.
Evergreen, hardy and relatively trouble-free, they look particularly great alongside heathers for that moorland feel; or plant them alongside grasses and bamboos for a softer, Oriental effect. There are stylish pines for the seaside or gravel garden, yews for a traditional English look or junipers and false cypresses for a more classical Mediterranean atmosphere. Elegant cedars always look fantastic reflected in lakes and ponds.
With such a wide range of year round colour, from steely blue to deep green, copper and gold, conifers associate so well with other plants including glossy evergreens and purple leafed shrubs. Conifers are even wellsuited in mixed herbaceous borders, and of course there are many dwarf and slow-growing varieties which are ideal for containers and the rock garden.
Cowell's Garden Centre stocks a wide range of interesting conifers, from miniatures through to large specimen plants for instant impact.
So next time you're in Cowell's, why not pay a visit to the conifer section and take a fresh look?
