Students do the business
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Jan 2, 2009
GENEROUS students from a North East college have been busy raising money for a children's charity.
Young people from Newcastle College's School of Business and Care managed to collect pounds 500 from an auction in aid of the Mosaic Appeal, run by Barnardo's.
As part of the project, the students visited local businesses asking for swaps or donations and were delighted to secure vouchers from TGI Friday, Collectables and John Lewis, as well as several items of jewellery and toys.
The entrepreneurial students then held an auction where all the donations were sold to the highest bidder and all proceeds given to the Mosaic Appeal.
Duncan Jordan, a lecturer in the School of Business and Care at Newcastle College, said: "Not only were the students able to gain vital team working and transferable skills, but they were also able to collect vocational evidence for their business course.
"The Mosaic Appeal really struck a chord with the students."
