Rugby ground site for school
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), June 23, 2009
PLANS to build one of three new school academies on the site of a North East football and rugby ground have been unveiled.
Durham County Council say their preferred choice for a new academy in Consett, County Durham, would be at Belle Vue, currently home to Consett football club and next door to the town's rugby club, on Ashdale Road.
The academy would cater for 1,500 pupils and be a result of a merger of two schools in the town, Moorside Community Technology College and Consett Community Sports College.
A report to councillors from Adam Williams, of the county council's School Organisation and Capital Projects Team, said the Belle Vue site is one of two under consideration, the other being at Crookhall.
Mr Williams reported that if the Belle Vue site was selected "one or both clubs may need to be relocated".
