Reader's poem

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), June 23, 2009

> ON A SMALLER SCALE RECKON to know everyone in the place Far as can see plenty open space Hilly terrain the fields look much the same Unspoilt countryside fresh air is the aim Activity is on a smaller scale Quiet so you think; tells many a tale Spot in distance one or two miles away Rarely out of sight; let the children play Stare in disbelief; strange though it may seem Everyone knows everyone is the theme A secret ain't a secret very long Community spirit is really strong Crime a detective isn't needed here Welcome hand of friendship is most sincere There's nothing to fear leave the door ajar You're accepted no matter who you are Safe in the knowledge; traffic will observe Wishes and desires happy to serve Help on another usual style Normally greeted by warm hearted smile JOHN NEAL
