Printing money
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), March 13, 2009
NEW workers will be given the right to print money - literally.
Bank note producer De La Rue is creating 70 new jobs on Tyneside and the company said it hoped to fill them all with people from the area.
Bosses said a boom in demand for notes from foreign countries was helping it grow.
The new workers will take staffing numbers at the Team Valley trading estate company to 240.
Head of corporate affairs Gary Williams said: "We do actually want people to help us make money, that's what we're recruiting for.
"We're delighted to be able to provide these jobs. Anything like this is of benefit to the economy.
"The money we produce is largely for the developing world, who have continued their demand for bank notes. This is why we have enjoyed such healthy growth as a business."
