TWO Huddersfield area students have achieved top degrees at Lancaster University's Management School.

Joanne Ambler and Naomi Gibson both achieved first-class honours.

Joanne, 26, originally from Ainley Top, has graduated with a degree in psychology and management .

Before going to university, Joanne, who now lives in Preston, studied psychology, sociology, economics and business studies at Huddersfield Technical College.

As well as her studies at Lancaster, she acted as the management department's reading group mentor, helping first-year students cope with complex texts.

She plans to start a master's degree course in social work at Central Lancashire University in Preston.

She eventually hopes to specialise in mental health social work and practise in Australia.

Naomi, from Skelmanthorpe, graduated with a first-class honours degree in management.

Before going to Lancaster, Naomi, 22, studied for A-levels in business studies, economics, psychology and German at Shelley High School and Sixth Form College.

She said: "My degree programme was quite broad, offering insight into many aspects of organisational life.

"It helped me to realise areas of particular interest or dislike."

Naomi hopes to find a business career in the public sector.

The two students' results were praised by Prof Sue Cox, dean of the management school.

She said: "We are delighted with the results.

"These are excellent performances and a reward for their hard work.

"The skills they have developed will be very much in demand as they progress through their careers."
