Newsome childrens party

Father Christmas was the special guest at a party for youngsters.

Almost 100 children attended the party held by Newsome Ward Community Forum at the scout hut.

Entertainment included face painting, a magician, balloon sculptures and story telling.

And just as the party was getting in to full swing Father Christmas found a window in his hectic schedule to visit the children and hand out party bags and books.

Clr Julie Stewart-Turner hailed the first children's Christmas party a success.

"We had some funding left over and thought this would be a great idea," she said.

"Not only is it a lot of fun for the children and the parents it is a wonderful way of getting the community together.

"A lot of people have learnt about the community forum as well because of the party.

"The highlight was seeing all the children's faces when Santa arrived.

"They all gathered around him to receive their gift."
