FOUR Huddersfield area people have gained Open University degrees.

They are Rachel Murray, of Longwood; Helen Newsome, from Beaumont Park; Graham Josey, of Kirkburton; and Mark Taylor, from Hade Edge.

Ms Murray, 35, of Thornhill Road, a full-time mum, has achieved a BA honours degree.

Ms Newsome, 34, of Woodside Road, received a BA honours degree in humanities.

Ms Newsome, a customer service adviser, found the Open University a life-changing experience - particularly as her son was born two years into her course.

Mr Josey, 44, of Gregory Drive, received a Bsc and Mr Taylor, 33, of Bayfield Close, received a Bsc honours degree in technology.

Mr Taylor, a senior broadcasting engineer , had started studying at Bradford University in 1994. But he withdrew after his mother died and he needed to work and support his father.

However, his desire for a degree remained and he saw the Open University as his best option.

All the graduates received their degrees at a ceremony at Harrogate International Centre.
