Appeal after tragedy

POLICE today appealed for witnesses to a death crash on the M62.
A 10-year-old boy died and four people in the same car were badly hurt in the smash early on Tuesday evening.
The crash happened on the westbound carriageway approaching the Lofthouse interchange near Wakefield at junction 29 A yellow mobile crane swerved - possibly to avoid a white hatchback car - that was in front of it.
This car is similar to an Audi A3.
Vehicles behind the crane were forced to brake and there was a collision between an Iveco-Ford box van, a Mercedes Sprinter van, a Toyota Rav 4 and a Ford Escort.
Nine people were hurt.
The boy who died was in the Ford Escort.
The four injured are They are a 14-year-old boy, a woman of 44, a 41-year-old man and a man aged 55.
All come from Hull and were taken to Pinderfields hospital in Wakefield with serious injuries.
A 50-year-old Morley man who was driving the Mercedes Sprinter was treated for shock.
A Wakefield woman aged 42 who was driving the Rav 4 and her two passengers, girls aged nine and five, were also shocked.
The driver of the Iveco-Ford van, a 22-year-old man from Worksop, was treated for whiplash injuries.
He was arrested and later released on police bail pending further inquiries.
