ON THE WEB; Storming start for Fresh Music

Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), April 2, 2008

Byline: Adrian SUDBURY

SOMETIMES when you launch a new section on a website you can never be quite sure how popular it is going to be.

We had high hopes for Fresh Music. Each week we feature local talent, or a band with a Huddersfield connection, in Monday's supplement, Fresh.

Now what we do is give you the opportunity to listen to them for free.

For a couple of months now we have been adding one or two audio - and in some cases video - files to this new section on examiner.co.uk.

It may not surprise you to learn that the media are occasionally more obsessed with their own ideas than their readers are.

And for a while I thought this might be the case with Fresh Music.

However, when the software for counting these files was finally fixed, I thought the results were brilliant.

It seems people are really interested in the local talent.

Most of the audio files have been listened to between 400 and 500 times.

But hats off to Huddersfield-based Kava Kava.

Their excellent music video for the track Bank Job has been played 1,731 times.

That is an exceptional result for a relatively niche section of a website like ours.

You can listen to all the music that has been published to that section today.

Have a look at examiner.co.uk. Go to Fresh and Features and click on Fresh Music.

Word about this section is spreading too. Lots of bands have been in touch and asked if we would put their music on our site. If you have any MP3 or MP4 files you would like us to check out then email them to katie.campling@examiner.co.uk
